Trichoepithelioma Associated with Cellular Blue Nevus

Background: Epithelial elements, such as trichoepithelioma, are occasionally associated with melanocytic nevi.
Objective: A case of trichoepithelioma in association with cellular blue nevus is reported.
Methods and Results: A solitary, pigmented nodule was removed from the scalp of a middle-aged woman. Histopathologic examination demonstrated a circumscribed cellular blue nevus within which were embedded epithelial strands and cystic structures consistent with trichoepithelioma.
Conclusion: Trichoepitheliomas have been described in relation to common acquired nevi, but an association with a blue nevus is rare. The intimate admixture of trichoepithelioma within the nodule of a nevus supports the concept of epithelial induction by melanocytic nevi.
Antécédents: Il arrive que des éléments épithéliaux comme le trichoépithéliome soient associés au naevus mélanocytaire.
Objectif: Décrire un cas de trichoépithéliome associé à un naevus bleu cellulaire.
Méthodes et Résultats: Excision d’un nodule solitaire pigmenté sur le cuir chevelu d’une femme d’âge moyen. L’examen histopathologique a montré la présence d’un naevus bleu cellulaire contenant des extensions épithéliales et des structures kystiques concordant avec un trichoépithéliome.
Conclusion: Le trichoépithéliome a déjà été décrit en relation avec le naevus commun acquis, mais l’association avec le naevus bleu est rare. L’inclusion intime du trichoépithéliome dans le nodule d’un naevus vient étayer le concept d’induction épithéliale par les naevus mélanocytaires.
