In response to requests by participants in previous years, we have changed the format of the present meeting, at least in the morning, to small group interactive sessions. Experts in the field will discuss three of the more common skin problems which have to be dealt with in general practice: the common eruptions of the face, skin breakdown, and the surgical approach to discrete facial lesions. In the afternoon we revert to a lecture format with the opportunity for questions after the session. The subjects to be covered in this section comprise the treatment of eczema in infancy through to adolescence, the diagnosis of drug eruptions and how to handle hair loss.

Upon completion of this course, you would be able to:

• discriminate between the various common facial eruptions as a prelude to offering specific therapy;
• be familiar with the essentials of healing ulcers whether of venous, arterial or pressure type;
• recognize the common facial lesions amenable to surgical therapy and be able to undertake some of these personally;
• know the therapy available for childhood eczema and for hair loss;
• have a heightened awareness of the many forms which drug eruptions can take and a respect for the significant morbidity they can cause in the skin.

The Division of Continuing Medical Education exercises the right to offer this course based on meeting a minimum enrollment. This course may be cancelled twenty (20) days prior to the course date. Each registrant will be notified by telephone, with written notification and a full refund following. The University of British Columbia is not responsible for any costs, including but not limited to airline or hotel penalties. If written notice of withdrawal and original tuition receipt are received by September 4, 1998, the registration will be refunded less a $50 handling charge. No refunds will be granted for withdrawal after this date.

This educational program meets the criteria of 5 credit hours of MAINPRO M1 of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. As an organization accredited to sponsor Continuing Medical Education for physicians by both the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education of the United States, the Division of Continuing Medical Education, UBC, designates this educational program as meeting the criteria of 5 credit hours in Category 1 of the Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA) of the American Medical Association (AMA) or any other organization that recognizes Category 1 credits.
